Mike Amyx is a lifelong resident of Lawrence, KS. At 56 years old, he and wife Marilyn have one son, Chris.
Commissioner Amyx is owner of Amyx Barber Shop, Inc., a family owned and operated business since 1942.
Mayor Amyx was elected Mayor by a vote of his peers on April 13, 2010. He is a current member of the Kansas Board of Barbering and is also the current Chair of this organization.
His previous experience includes terms as Lawrence City Commissioner 1983-1988, Lawrence Mayor 1985-86, 1987-88, and 2006-2007, Douglas County Commissioner 1988-1993, Chairman, Douglas County Commission, 1989-90.
